Lung Health Conditions
 

Most people know of the common chest complaints, Bronchitis, Asthma and Influenza.

There are however many more diseases and conditions that affect our lungs, many of which are life threatening and debilitating.

These include;

  • Asbestosis and Asbestos related conditions
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Bronchiectasis
  • COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
  • Common Cold
  • Influenza
  • Interstitial Lung Disease
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Silica Related Lung Diseases
  • Tuberculosis

Apart from the physical affects of the diseases, there are other associated conditions that will, and some that may, arise. These include

  • A change in life style
  • Dependence on Oxygen supply
  • Depression, (including, Loss of self esteem, Loneliness, Frustration)
  • Increased susceptibility to colds and flu, as well as extended recovery times (up to 6 times longer than healthy people).
  • Loss of quality of life
  • Need to rely on others, partial or complete
  • Reduction in physical ability to do things
  • Reduced mobility

Some of these associated conditions also affect the carer as well as the patient. This is especially so, where it is a family member who looks after the patient.

  • A change in life style
  • Depression (including, Loss of self esteem?, Loneliness, Frustration)
  • Loss of quality of life
  • Need to rely on others, to assist with patient care, to give the primary carer a rest.
